With CuteFTP
- Open the 'APPS' folder and open the 'Internet' folder
- Double click CutFtp32 icon
- A dialog titled FTP site manager will appear, just click 'Exit'
- Click on FTP and then select 'Quik Connect'. Alternatively, just press Ctrl-C
- Fill the following as shown in the figure:
- Host Address: home
- UserID: here put your login. (for eg. if your roll no. is 121, it will be u198121)
- Password: stu
(this is the default password)
- Initial remote directory: www
(this is case sensitive and has to be in lower case)
- Click 'Ok'
- A Login screen will appear. Click 'Ok'
- The bottom left half of the screen represents your computer hard-disk and the bottom right half represents the Server where the TTR's are to be posted
- On the left half, change the drive to the one where your html files are stored. for eg. if your files are in D:\xsys\webpages\, then first choose D: in the Drive selector box and open the webpages folder like you normally do in explorer.
- General file naming rules
- it is a good idea to keep all filenames in lowercase as the server is very case-sensitive. it will treat Test.html and test.html as two different files.
- Make sure all the files have the extension as '.html' and not just '.htm'. if it is not so, then right click the file and rename it as with the extension as '.html'.
- The server requires that ONE file be named 'index.html'. This will be the first page that is loaded when somebody accesses your site and will be your 'Home Page'. It would be a good idea to put all the links to your pages on this Home page. Without a file called index, people who browse your site will not be able to go your web pages.
- make sure all the links are working. for best results put all your web pages and images etc. in one folder.
- Keeping the Ctrl key depressed, select all the files that you want to put on the server. then press Ctrl-Pageup
Alternatively, just click on 'Commands' and choose 'Upload'. When all the html files and the images are uploaded you should be able to see them on the right side(the server) of the screen.
- You can test your pages by opening any browser, and entering the following URL: home/~<your login>/
for eg., if your Roll number is 121, then enter:
home/~u199121/
- If the index.html page appears on the browser, then you have succesfully posted the files on the net.
Troubleshooting
- 1. Page doesn't appear: if the pages don't appear or some images
don't appear, then check the link to see if there are any case
mismatches between the link on any page and the actual filename.
