Broad Guidelines for the Instructor

PGDM COURSE

The guidelines given below would be of help to our new faculty and to all of us a reaffirmation of our academic system to be practised:

1. The course begins with a course outline which is already discussed with the area members. Faculty concerned are requested to give two copies of the outline to the Dean's Office. It is recommended that faculty members maintain a course web on the intranet.

2. The course outline may specify course objectives, contents, session allocation, methodology, evaluation package, dates for submission of assignments and reading list and any other important instructions to the class.

3. All course material will be prepared by the Institute. Faculty members are advised to give the course material to the secretary assigned for their course(s) well in advance. Preparing course material outside is not allowed unless prior permission is taken from the Dean.

4. Unless otherwise specified every course is a 3-credit course, meaning thereby 30 contact hours scheduled over 20 sessions of 90 minutes each, twice a week in one teaching term of ten weeks.

5. Every course is to be completed within the term it begins. A longer spread-over and/or extra session to suit the very special requirements of a course is to be pre-arranged with the consent of the Area and the Dean. It is of crucial importance so as to complete the specified number of credits each term for purposes of enforcing our minimum requirements of QPI and CQPI.

6. Students have to meet the prescribed attendance requirements. Attendance is taken in every session of the class. All faculty members are advised to take note of Attendance Policy in the Students Manual of Policies.

7. Electives: In the elective course also the attendance begins from the very first session. Before attending the third session of an elective course of 3-credits, the student has to inform the instructor and Dean’s Office whether s/he would credit/audit/leave the course. In case of 1.5-credit elective sampling of the course is permitted only in the first session. A student has to confirm the choice status before attending the second session in such a course. No change in the status of the course thereafter would be permitted. A student can begin a 3-credit/1.5-credit elective in the third session or 2nd session as the case may be only with the permission of the instructor concerned but at the risk of short attendance. A student joining the term late due to contingent reasons will be admitted to electives of his/her choice on his/her joining but with the consent of the faculty concerned. Such a student however will also be governed by our attendance rules.

8. An elective course of less than 10 students class size is usually dropped unless special permission from the Dean/Director on some justifiable grounds is obtained.

9. Submission of assignments, quizzes, presentations etc. is enforced for better time management. Late submission exposes the student to grade reduction penalties as per the Manual of Policies for Students.

10. Any exchange of class schedule with another faculty or any change in the schedule or schedule of extra sessions is to be informed to the Dean's Office for better coordination.

11. Any discontinuation/extension/non-completion of a course must be informed to the Dean immediately by the faculty concerned.

12. At the end of the course, the attendance file is sent to the Dean's Office. Action to be taken for short attendance if any, is to be indicated in the prescribed format.

13. Examination: End-term examination is compulsory even for those students who for some contingent reasons miss out the scheduled end-term examination. A make-up examination if agreed by the instructor is to be scheduled within two weeks from the date the concerned student rejoins after his/her absence. Request for a make-up examination for the missed out end-term examination may not be rejected unless the student is to be penalised for a serious default, with the consent of the Dean. Faculty is free to deduct one grade point in a make-up examination due to uninformed absence.

14. Malpractices in Examination: During the examination, answer paper can be taken away from the participant immediately on detection of a clear malpractice and the incident reported to the Dean immediately.
