1. Course Description
The present business environment is full of challenges; challenges which are extremely complex and demanding. Expectations have to be fulfilled, moral and ethical values have to be upheld, and alongside business has to prosper. Managers of today need to be multi-skilled to face challenges anytime anywhere… and do so effectively and efficiently. The course aims at preparing the participants for facing such a challenging and competitive environment. It instills in the participants the confidence required to face the communication challenges. The course induces professionalism in participating in interactive presentations - be it public speaking or even discussing in groups. It sensitizes the participants to the basic corporate etiquette essential for making a positive impression and increasing mutual respect. The course provides the participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate effectively with others, and make a meaningful contribution both within their workplace and outside.

· Make professional presentations
· Show more sensitivity towards self & others
· Participate in corporate group discussions
· Manage themselves as well as their superiors, subordinates and peers
· Be more sensitive towards basic office and dining etiquette

3. Required Text Books and Reading Material

Course material will be compiled just before the course begins. Some relevant handouts will also be given.

4. Tentative Session Plan

IMPORTANT: The topics will be taken up recursively as per the need and the progress made in each session. However, the following topics will be covered in the course.

I. PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT.
1. A prerequisite for Effective communicators.
2. Manage Self to Manage Communication.
3. Confidence Building

FOUR SESSIONS

II. PRESENTATION SKILLS / PUBLIC SPEAKING
Managing

*Handling the Aids
*making corporate presentations keeping in view A, B & C
*feedback from the instructor and audience
*learning to moderate the discussion

TWO SESSIONS:

Discussion and using your table manners at the table- dining together: a practical exposure

THE COURSE WILL MAKE EXTENSIVE USE OF AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS (SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF THE GADGETS). HAVING ‘SKILL-DEVELOPMENT’ AS THE FOCUS, THE COURSE WILL ALSO ENCOURAGE LOT OF ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF THE STUDENT BOTH AS AN ‘INDIVIDUAL’ AND AS A MEMBER OF A ‘GROUP’.


5. Evaluation

Class Participation=65%

· Group Quiz=10%
· Group Topic Presentation=10% (5%+5%)
· Group Discussion (GD)=10%
· Individual Presentation=20% (10%+10%)
· Group Project Presentation=10%
· Group Project Report/Learning Paper= 5%
· End Term=35%


6. Academic Integrity Any unfair means in examinations will invite heavy penalty. It may also invite an ‘F’ in the component/course.

Late comers to the class will not be given attendance. They may also be refrained from attending the class. Each absence from the class will make the student lose ONE grade point.
