Course Description

This course is an introduction to statistics designed for management students. In the rapidly changing business environment it is imperative to have an appreciation of data, its presentation, analysis and interpretation. This course aims at imparting these skills so that you can make better of use of data in decision making.


Leaning Outcomes

At the end of the course you should be able to

· Present / interpret data in tables and charts.
· Understand and apply descriptive statistical measures to business situations.
· Understand and apply probability distributions to model different types of business processes.
· Understand and apply statistical inference techniques (including statistical estimation and hypothesis testing) in business situations. Reading
1. Statistics for Management, by Levin R.I, and Rubin D.S. Prentice Hall India, Seventh Edition, 2000.
2. Handouts and data sets will be made available during the course.

Evaluation

1. 1Quiz - 15% weight.
2. 1 Mid term exam - 30% weight.
3. Attendance, class participation, group work – 15%
4. End-term - 40%

No Makeup Exams. Marks for missed components will be equated to the minimum of the other attended components (in percentage terms).
