1. Course Description

In competitive job market, organizations focus on technical skills as primary to success in the workplace. People with better communication skills therefore have an advantage over others. Nevertheless, strong interpersonal skills are also equally essential in transforming individual contributors into exceptional performers who have a greater impact value in their roles. At professional front, it is communication and its related skills that decide a person’s career curve.

The course on ‘Communicate with Impact’ is designed to assist students who need to be purposeful, focused and succinct when communicating with others. Creating the right impression, having clarity and confidence in expressing their ideas both verbally and non-verbally, and making the right choice of words will be integral part of the course. It will also provide individuals with a powerful set of practical interactive sessions that will enable students to communicate more effectively with potential customers and seniors, and in the process, build relationship, trust, good will to achieve desired results.

The main objective of the course is to help the students perceive their role as an effective communicator in the context of global business and set about equipping them with the necessary skills and competencies in carrying out their expected responsibilities with a special emphasis on creating impact at every stage.

2. Student Learning outcomes

The students will be able to
Ø Package oneself to create impact in different situations.
Ø Use logic and coherence in communication.
Ø Use verbal and non-verbal techniques to enhance their message.
Ø Facilitate high performance meetings and public speaking.
Ø Frame basic business documents using appropriate business language.

4. Students are expected to read the handouts/chapters from other books suggested/given in class from time to time.

02 Confidence building, assessing non-verbal communication while speaking and listening.
03& 04Packaging oneself to create impact at work place (Activity -2)
05Understanding the importance of logic and coherence in day to day business conversations and meetings.
06& 08Assessment of non-verbal communication (body language, social etiquettes, learning to respond in different situations (Activity -3)
09-10Attitude formation to face interviews and to handle corrections from Boss (Activity -4)
11-14Knowing how to facilitate high performance meetings and assess group communication (Activity -5)
15Framing basic business messages using appropriate business language (Activity -6)
Note: Students may be called for extra lectures/exercises/feedback etc., if need be.

4. Evaluation*:
1. Individual/groupassessment based on class activities/tests- (75%)
2. Class participation and attendance - 05%
3. End TermOral Exam (viva) -20%
*: You will be judged on your confidence level, ability to create impact, effectiveness of your speech, concise and short-to the point messages, and ability to facilitate group task and come to a logical conclusion.

Academic Integrity
Any unfair means in examinations and in class will invite penalty. It may also invite an ‘F’ in the component/course. Late comers to the class will be refrained from attending the lecture.
