1. Course Objective: Project Management is becoming a critical success factor in today’s competitive and fast changing global business environment. As per KPMG, more than USD 1 trillion is being spent on projects annually. And ironically, more than 50% of these projects, even today are challenged and facing schedule and cost overruns. Two of the top reasons for these project failures as per PMI (Project Management Institute) are termed as:

· Lack of adoption of standard and matured project management methodology
· Lack of skilled project managers

Organizations globally have become very proactive in adopting Standard Project Management Methodology and Best Practices across all projects within their own organizations and also have proactively been training their managers on Project Management Practices and Standard.

Project Management has gradually become an integral way of managing critical and strategic socio-economic-business plans and objectives. Be it developing new infrastructure, a new manufacturing facility, implementing a new service offering, developing a new IT solution, designing a new product, transformations within an existing organization, a mission to space or even implementing a welfare scheme, all are planned and executed as Projects. Managing strategic business or socio-economic objectives and goals as Projects, brings obvious tangible benefits in terms of reduced cost and time lines and most importantly ensuring successful implementation.

Project management is thus of vital importance to any undertaking that is being newly setup or to any organization planning expansion/diversification of its activities. Project Management is considered now as a specialized skill and profession and is considered to be much wider in scope in terms of skills required vis-à-vis general management. This 4.0 credit course addresses management aspects of project initiation, planning, execution controlling and closing with understanding of Project Management concepts, processes, applicable knowledge areas, tools and techniques, best practices etc.
