1. Course Objective: The scope of OM ranges from strategic to tactical and operational levels. Representative strategic issues include determining the size and location of manufacturing plants, product and service design, acquisition of new technologies and designing of supply chains. Tactical issues include aggregate planning, equipment selection and replacement, facility layout and so forth. Operational issues include production scheduling and control, inventory management, quality control, and more.
2. Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
· Identify types of operations decisions and explain productive system types;
· Explain alternative approaches to capacity planning;
· Appreciate scientific methods for making optimal location and layout decisions;
· Applying forecasting technique to manage demand;
· Manage inventory efficiently;
· Apply the concepts of lean manufacturing in managing operations;
· Implement quality management concepts at every level for superior quality products and services;

5. Evaluation:
1. Quiz 1 (Individual) : 20 %
2. Quiz 2 (Individual) : 20 %
3. Assignment (individual) : 20 %
4. Final exam (hard copy) : 40 %

7. Assignment: Each individual has to critique an article from an academic journal (published
between 2010-14) from any one of the following areas:
a. Forecasting
b. Capacity
c. Plant location
d. Plant layout
e. Lean manufacturing
f. Quality management
g. Inventory management

The typed report should not be more than 4 pages long (excluding the cover page). You should summarize the article and comment on its strengths and weaknesses. You must mention the title of the article, author’s name, journal name, year of publication, Volume No, Issue no. and page no in your report.
