1. Course Description
Communication is considered to be the life-blood of an organization. The course aims to train managers to be effective speakers and to have good interpersonal communication skills. The course content on both written & oral communication is designed to improve the participants’ organizational effectiveness as managers and personal effectiveness as communicators.

2. Student Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
· Identify their shortcomings, and build their confidence as managers
· Manage themselves, their content and their audience during a presentation
· Acquaint themselves with the basics of Written Communication

3. Required Text Books and Reading Material
Understanding Human Communication by Ronald B. Adler and George Rodman, 10th Edition. Oxford University Press.
Students will also be expected to read articles, handouts and other photocopied material given from time to time as part of reading material for the course.

Session I
Making Individual Presentations for practice & feedback

Session 2
Basics of communication
Skills of communication (mainly listening, speaking, reading and writing): a glimpse

Session 3
1. Topic selection by groups for presentation
2. Discussion on topics (group wise) with faculty

Session 4
1. The Art of Effective Listening: role of empathy for managerial success and organizational effectiveness
2. Importance of feedback in Organizations
3. Role of feedback in self-learning

6. Academic Integrity and Code of Conduct:
Any unfair means in examinations will invite heavy penalty. It may also invite an ‘F’ in the component/course.

Late comers to the class will not be given attendance. They may also be refrained from attending the class. Each absence from the class will make the student lose ONE grade point.

IMPORTANT: THE PARTICIPANTS WILL MAKE GROUP PRESENTATIONS ON VARIOUS TOPICS RELATED TO COMMUNICATION AS IT TAKES PLACE IN ORGANIZATIONS. THIS WILL ENCOURAGE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS & REAL-LIFE EXPERIENCES.
