1. Course Description

Technology has an all-pervading presence in our day to day lives. Developing computer proficiency has become a necessity in all professions, and the field of management is no exception to it. Computer proficiency in developing professional reports, presentations and managing data is an ineluctable skill which most corporates also look for in individuals. To this end the course on managerial computing aims to sensitize the participants on managing data, specifically use of the spreadsheet, organize data in the spreadsheet, carry out arithmetic manipulations, visualizing and reporting the data. The tool used for the exercises would be Microsoft excel. This course serves the twin purpose of sensitizing the participants towards the importance of the spreadsheet tool such as excel as well as give a glimpse of the myriad possibilities that exists to manipulate data in excel. This course is a lab oriented course.
1. Student Learning Outcomes
The course on Managerial Computing will introduce and sensitize the use of spreadsheet tool Microsoft Excel and explain the importance of organizing, managing and making sense of the data. After completion of this course the students would be able to
· Demonstrate the ability to draw appropriate inferences from the data
· Prepare good quality excel reports
2. Required Text Books and Reading Material
NEW PERSPECTIVES MICROSOFT® OFFICE 365 & EXCEL 2016: COMPREHENSIVE (English, Paperback, Jamrich Parsons June. Et.Al), Cengage Publications. Students are also expected to have Microsoft Excel 2013 (or higher versions) tool on their laptops.

1. End Term examination – 50 %

The end term examination would be conducted as per schedule from the Dean’s office. It would be a closed book examination.

2. Test/Midterm examination – 50 %

Each student is expected to submit an individual assignment covering various aspects covered during the course.

Please note that all assessment components are individual based.

5. After Class Support/Discussion


ACADEMIC DISHONESTY:

Please note that students involved in academic dishonesty will be dealt with as per the Manual of Policies. For severe cases the student may be awarded fail grade in the course.

Academic dishonesty consists of misrepresentation by deception or by other fraudulent means. In an academic setting this may take any number of forms such as copying or use of unauthorized aids in tests, assignments, examinations, term papers, or cases; plagiarism; talking during in-class examinations; submission of work that is not your own without citation; submission of work generated for another course without prior clearance by the instructor of both courses; submission of work generated by another person; aiding and abetting another student’s dishonesty; and giving false information for the purpose of gaining credits.

NO NETWORK POLICY

All students are requested not to operate any network enabled devices such as cell phones, tabs, ipads or any other electronic network enabled devices inside the classroom during the Managerial Computing sessions. In case you are compelled to carry it in person, you may keep it in the switched off mode. Anyone found to operate such devices during the session timings shall get penalized with a 5% marks deduction from the total evaluation scores for every incident of violation noted by the facilitator. No discussion or negotiation will be entertained at all with respect to this.

Note: -

1. Institute norms for attendance would be followed.
2. Institute norms for grading and assessment would be followed.
3. Students are requested to put enough efforts to pass in the course. No requests for makeup examinations, projects or grace marks would be accepted.
