1. Course Description The course is aimed at assessing the competence of the students in handling English to communicate their ideas and objectives; providing remedial measures to overcome their present handicap; introducing them to the styles and formats of business writing; giving guidelines to manage the varied channels of business communications, such as, print, electronic, and social media; writing case analysis and effective Reports and producing in-company journals and newsletters and
publications.

2. Student Learning Outcomes (typically 3-5 bullet points)

· Be able to write grammatically correct English
· Be able to manage ordinary business correspondence
· Be able to write general reports and speciasl reports on case analysis
· to prepare reports on case analysis.

Course Outline

Session 1 Nature and scope of managerial written communication
Tests to measure one’s competence in handling English language and composition
Session 2 Common problems that non-English speakers face in writing correct and idiomatic English :Guidelines to composing correct sentences and paragraphs
Session 3 Exercises in correct form and use of verbs; Exercises in correct use of modifiers and word order
Session 4 Exercises in sentence formation
Session 5 Exercises in forming effective paragraphs and in composing a text
Session 6 The nature and qualities of managerial writing
Session 7 Styles of business writing: letters, memos, and emails
Session 8 The format of Business letters that get responses
Session9 The outline of a routine business letter
Session 10 How to prepare a ‘bad news’ and a persuasion letters
Session 11 Preparing a biodata and the accompanying cover letter
Session 12 Types of business reports: format and content
Session 13 Preparing a Report on case analysis
Session 14 E-mail correspondence and netiquette
Session 15 Writing for internal communication in an organization

5. Evaluation

Knowledge of the principles of good writing : 25 %
