Introduction

Effective structure and design of organization to a great extent helps an organization to achieve their business goals. Operationally effective organization structure and design ensures availability of manpower with requisite skills and competencies for job performance. Students after undergoing this course would develop better perspectives in comprehending various theoretical issues and determinants of effective organization structure and design. This course has inter-disciplinary linkages with strategies, conflict, culture, organizational development and change management issues. Obviously the course coverage will address those issues, both from the theoretical and operational perspectives, drawing lessons from the corporate practices.

Course Objectives

Keeping in view its importance in a globalised era, and in a changing business environment, this course has been designed to achieve the objectives as under:

1. To understand various theoretical issues on organizational structure and design.
2. To develop knowledge and expertise in designing effective organization structure integrating learned theories with the corporate practices.
3. To understand structure-strategy linkages and how structure and design of organization gets affected for various issues like; culture, strategy, conflict, culture, change management, and organizational development issues.
4. To critically study the organizational structure of the selected organizations, and develop the alternative model, if at all required, based on the business focus of the organizations.
5. To solve case problems on organization structure and design. Course contents

3. Various determinants and parameters of organizational design
4. Types of organizational structure
5. Influence of Environment, technology, and strategy on organization structure
6. Impact of culture on organizational design and structure
7. Organizational change and development issues
8. Organizational power and conflict issues
9. Organizational learning and developmental issues
10. Research on organizational structure and design
