Content: In this Management and International Business elective students stress test an organization’s strategyStress-Test Your Strategy: The 7 Questions to Ask by R L Simons: Harvard Business School Publishing, 2010. They also ‘audit’ an organization’s leadership, capability and capacity to innovate, and functional areas to check how well these functions are integrated with the stated mission and strategy and how well is the organization performing in accomplishing its goals. The resulting check-up, or Management RecapManagement Reconnaissance for Intelligence Scan; Management Reconnaissance for Inefficiency Scan; Management Requirement Investigation Scan; Management Resource Imbalance Scan; Multifold Reflection Image Scan; Multi Route Investigation Scan; Management Resources Infrastructure Scan!& Investigation (MRI), leads to the creation of new strategy for the organization. The final paper includes an action plan that also details intended and unintended consequences of the proposed actions.

The focus is also on evaluating an organization’s value chain as well as the execution of its elements as they fit within the organization’s strategyBloom, et al. (2012) “Management practices across firms and countries,” Academy of management Perspective, Vol. 26, No. 1 (February), pp. 12-33; Waldman, et al. “What can we really learn about management practices across firms and countries?”, Academy of management Perspective, Vol. 26, No. 1 (February), pp. 34-40.. The course affords students an opportunity to explore how their organization’s functional strategies are aligned with the overarching mission and goals and tests how well the strategy of an organization is ‘lived’!

Format: During the first sessions we discuss the plan of action for the course; discuss how to go about conducting this ‘audit’ and intermediate deadlines for completing on the project plan.
