COURSE OUTLINE
Commercial Banking has witnessed sweeping changes in last few years, simultaneously consolidating and diversifying in an increasingly deregulated environment. This process has got further hastened in the pursuit of profit at the ‘bottom of the pyramid “. With appropriate technology and increasing awareness, Banks have expanded their outreach to meet ever expanding customer profile. Added to this, public policy framework for FINANCIAL INCLUSION driven by competitive forces compelled Banks to search for new grounds to serve clientele. The dynamics of BANK operation has to align with the Customer expectations without compromising on profit, service quality and risk -reward frame work.
OBJECTIVE
1 . To build a practice oriented conceptual foundation in commercial Banking.
2. To analyze the functioning of banks in context of latest developments in India.
3. To acquaint with the current regulatory provisions.

Introduction to banking in general -
Product and business profile of Commercial Banks. Analysis of bank portfolio, and management of bank balance sheet.
Ø
Fund based and Non-fund based activities (fee-based activities).
Ø
Transaction banking, Fund settlement, EFT, RTGS, NEFT, and Settlement issues in CMP
Ø
Bank regulation- regulatory requirements & compliances- Bassel framework
Ø
Asset build up and profitability- Asset liability management in banks
Ø
Trade transactions in commercial banking, correspondent banking, and settlement of accounts.
Ø
Introduction to Bank Credit ,Balance sheet analysis and Financial Ratios relevant to Credit decision Making
Ø
Introduction to working capital for Corporate includes Overdraft, Bridge Finance, Adhoc Limits, Commercial papers, etc
Ø
Methods of lending which elaborates concept of Cash Cycle based analysis and different methods of lending and score card based assessment

NFB – Letter of Credit and Bank Guarantee with Case studies on LC and BG
Ø
Credit Management pre sanction / post sanction /NPA management
Suppliers credit, Buyers Credit and External Commercial Borrowing.

Branch banking,calculation of profitability of individual unit, Transfer price mechanism, efficiency evaluation.

:
The course will have an appropriate mixture of cases, lectures, and assignments.
Evaluation:
The participants will be evaluated using RELATIVE GRADING. Minimum pass mark is 30 out of 100.
