Course Description:
The course encompasses a survey of Business/Management Information Systems topics ranging from the traditional MIS concepts to the contemporary concepts like the strategic impact of MIS upon a firm including its role with regard to the various processes and culture in an organization. The course also provides a thorough grounding and internalization of the important MIS concepts, which will help the participants to apply their knowledge towards innovative IT uses. Participants will have enriching exposure to a wide range perspectives and approaches that can be pursued by organizations at different levels of IT appreciation and maturity. Another important part of the course is the various IS Planning techniques that can be employed by the CEOs/CIOs/CTOs. There will also be discussions on systems for supporting knowledge-based work, like Decision Support Systems, and Knowledge Management. At the end we will try to uncover the future challenges before the IS managers. The course will be based on conceptual treatise as well as practice/presentation sessions, which will give you a verisimilar experience of practicing IS professionals. The aim of the course is to equip the students with the skills to get the best out of the IT department.

Course Guidelines
Your attitude toward learning the course material will influence your learning and performance. The skills you will acquire in this course will be useful no matter what career you choose. You are responsible for all of the materials covered in class and in the textbook.
You are free to meet your instructor in connection with assignments, and to clarify any concepts from the lecture/s.
There will be a number of case discussions in the class, for which you should come prepared to the class. Coming unprepared to the class will affect your class participation marks (refer to class participation).
Examinations
There will be quizzes, case discussions, presentations, and a final end term examination in this course. Please refer to “course grading” for the details.
Group Presentations and Reports
There will be at least 2 presentations for each group. The reports for presentations should be submitted in soft copies too. Your presentation should summarize your team’s work and findings and involve the class in discussion. All team members should participate. Group presentation reports and all group assignments should have the group no. and the group members’ names on the title page.
In grading the presentations and reports, I will look for originality, presentation style, ability to generate a class discussion, enthusiasm, and the demonstration of a clear understanding of the management information systems concepts in the team findings. The rest of the class will come fully prepared to participate in the discussions and contribute to the learning process.

Class Participation
MIS is evolving concept, class participation is essential to the success of the class. Obviously, you must attend classes in order to participate. Participation does not necessarily mean constantly trying to answer questions, but provide meaningful contribution to the class through comments and discussion. Attendance, participation/contribution, and your conduct inside the class – room will be used for grading your class participation component.
