Subject: Social Legislation for Indian Managers (3 credit)

Objective: Indian Managers are to work in a typical legal environment. As students, the prospective managers are to acquire input on different aspects of social legislation from different perspective which will go a long way in guiding them when they take over as managers. It is worth mentioning that the total business policy of this country only to satisfy the objectives envisaged in the constitution.

Module 1: Sources of Law:-

Law as a concept Object of law Need for the knowledge of Law Sources of Law - customers and usages - Case law - Natural Law - Statutory law Classification of Law – Indian judicial system (2 hrs)

Module 2: Constitution of India:-

Basic Framework Preamble Citizenship Fundamental Rights – Directive Principles – Fundamental Duties - Union Executives - Parliament – Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha – State Executive – State Legislature Indian Judiciary – Local self Govt. – Relation between the Union and the State - Freedom of Trade, & Commerce (3hrs)

Module 3: Child Labour:-

Meaning Socio legal analysis Judicial approach Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986 Regulation of conditions of work of children – Health and Safety – Penalties – Procedure relating to offences Children (Pledging of labour) Act 1933. (2 hrs)

Module 4: Bonded Labour:-

Socio Economic background of bonded labour Constitutional provision [Article 23& 35] Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act of 1976 Concepts Extinguishment of liability to repay bounded debt Implementing Authority Offences and Procedure for trial. (2hrs)

Module 5: Contract Labour:-

Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act 1970 - Interpretation of Concepts Advisory Boards Registrationof Establishment Licensing of Contractors Welfare and Health of Contract Labour Penalties and Procedure. (1hr)

Module 6: Equal Remuneration:-

Module 8: Environmental Law:-

Environment & Pollution Contribution of Industries – Environment (Protection Act) of 1986 Definitions and interpretations – prevention , Control & Abatement of Environmental Pollution - Offences Penalty & Trial Procedure Air Pollution Water Pollution Noise Pollution (3 hrs)

Module 9: Consumer Protection:-

Consumer Protection Movement Rights of Consumer Consumer Protection Act of 1986 - Consumer Consumer Disputes Deficiency in Service / goods Unfair Trade Practices Fora Complaint – Appeal Revision Limitation Executions Penal Measures Jurisdiction: Territorial, Pecuniary & Statutory. (4 hrs)

Module 10: Intellectual Property:-

Intellectual Property Concept Nature of copy right Literary, Dramatic and Musical Works Artistic Works Rights conferred by Copy Right Copy Right Act of 1957 Concepts Licences International Copy Right Infringement of Copy Right Offences Registration. (3hrs)
