Dynamics of Personal Growth and Development

Course Outline

I. Scope

Personal and professional growth is an essential element of corporate excellence. This requires an effective management of negative forces operating in organization. It also requires the promotion of positive resources within the individual. The objective of the present course is to help participants to acquire the skills of controlling negative forces such as helplessness and debilitating emotion. The other goal is to assist participants to develop the skills of self-efficacy, resilience and self-healing personality. The basic goal is to foster cognitive, affective and psychomotor development.

II. Objectives
· To provide an overview of the field
· To develop one's skills to understand dynamics of individual growth and development.
· To develop one’s skills to appreciate various theoretical generalizations relating to positive work behavior.
· To help participants to objectively observe and analyze their own parameters of growth behaviour.
· To help participants to deal with problems arising out negative environment.

III. Class Format

A combination of lectures, assessment sessions, group discussion, simulation sessions and students presentations would be used. The session outline lists the reading materials. Participants of the programmes are expected to see through the materials prior to class sessions. The materials are intended to provide conceptual inputs.

IV. Evaluation Scheme

The following would be weightage of the specific evaluation modality:

A. Quiz 10 + 10 = 20%

B. Group Presentation = 15%

C. Personal Learning Paper = 25%

D. Class Involvement = 10%

E. End-Term Examination = 30%

V. Quiz

There would be two quizzes, each one consisting of objective type of questions.

Dates: Session 6 & 12.

VI. Group Presentation

Group presentation is scheduled during the last session.

Vll. Personal Learning Paper

A 10 to 20 typed pages individual write-up is required. The topic should pertain to any aspect of positive organizational behaviour including themes covered in the course outline. A captivating ease analysis or critical analysis of a concept or an interesting observation may be reported. The review of a book relevant to POB is also acceptable. Course participants are encouraged to carry out a small scale empirical study involving any of the parameter (s) discussed.

VIII. Course Involvement

Credit would be given on the basis of regularity of class attendance, participation and initiative.

IX. End-Term Exam

A multiple choice format of exam carrying 20 marks plus case analysis carrying 10 marks would be given to assess conceptual clarity.

X. Texts

A list of reading materials is supplied with respect to the themes.

In addition to the recommended books, participants are expected to see through some journals such as Harvard Business Review. An additional list of supplementary reading materials would also be supplied from time to time.
