1. Course Description
In a competitive market, organizations always focus on manpower rationalization. Market globalization, economic slowdown, and any eventual business uncertainties require organizations to restructure the manpower. Although such manpower restructuring need not always be rightsizing (leading to manpower redundancy), many organizations, particular those who undertake project based job orders, require to procure at time additional manpower, even on short notices. This syndrome is evident in IT and IT enabled services (ITeS) organizations, in retail industry, and in infrastructure development companies who executes engineering and civil projects. These apart, many consumer durable companies, FMCG organizations, automobiles manufacturing units today follow market driven approach of production planning. Lean management practices require such organizations to scale down their manpower requirement to the bare minimum, while creating a buffer of manpower inventory with their vendors to whom they outsource their non-core activities.

Human resource planning precedes manpower procurement, i.e., recruitment and selection functions.
