Communication is considered to be the life-blood of an organization. It is no more thought of as one of the aspects of organizational success rather it is seen as the foundation of modern organization. Organizational success seems to largely depend on how open the channels of communication are. Communication acts as a binding force that enables people coordinate, plan and execute their responsibilities such as may help them survive the fierce competitive world of today.
The study of organizational communication recognizes that communication in an organization goes far beyond training managers to be effective speakers and to have good interpersonal communication skills.


Broadly, the course in various sessions, covers the following:

Session I
1. Basics of Communication
2. Skills of Communication (mainly Listening, Speaking and Writing): a glimpse

Session II
1.Topic selection by groups for presentation
2. Discussion on topics (group wise) with faculty

Session III
1. Listening and Feedback
2. Case: group quiz

Session IV
Assertion, Negotiation & Persuasion in Communication

Session V
Effective Presentation Skills
1. Points to remember:
A) with regard to the subject
B) with regard to the audience
C) with regard to yourself
2. Managing your Audience
3. Handling the Aids
· Making Presentations keeping in view A, B & C


Session VI
1. Effect of Culture on Communication
2. Effect of Technology on Communication
Discussion & experience sharing

Session VII & VIII
Written Communication

Session IX
Class for Topic Presentation Preparation

Session X – XIV
Presentations by Group I to Group X

Session XV
Mental & Physical Health for Effective Communication & Corporate Well being.


IMPORTANT: PARTICIPANTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO READ ALL THE HANDOUTS GIVEN IN CLASS FROM TIME TO TIME AND, THE TOPICS COVERED IN CLASS FROM THE BOOK GIVEN TO THEM AS PART OF THE READING MATERIAL.


THE PARTICIPANTS WILL MAKE GROUP PRESENTATIONS ON VARIOUS TOPICS RELATED TO COMMUNICATION AS IT TAKES PLACE IN ORGANIZATIONS. THIS WILL ENCOURAGE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS & REAL-LIFE EXPERIENCES.

EVALUATION PATTERN:
Group Quiz (1): 10%
Individual Quiz: 30%
Group Topic Presentation: 20%
End Term: 40%
