1. Course Description

You must have realized that the ability to generate complex thoughts and communicate them effectively to the audience plays a critical role in our day-to-day life; be it professional or personal. Communication skill continues to be rated as one of the key personal skills employers need. The degree of the effectiveness of this skill depends upon the effectiveness of your personal skill. The better your communication skills the better you are understood. This Oral Communication Skills course has been planned keeping in view the above. Various opportunities given to students for making individual and group presentations instills confidence in organizing their thoughts and speaking before an audience. Training in participating in job interviews and group discussions, and guidance in marketing themselves through their resume, help increase the employability of the students.

2. Student Learning Outcomes (typically 3-5 bullet points)

Students will be able to:
· communicate orally with confidence
· manage themselves, their content, and their audience in a presentation
· participate in teamwork
· discuss in teams respecting and if needed, accommodating the view of others
· prepare for summer/job interviews
· frame better resumes

Compulsory reading of relevant chapters from the following book:

“BCOM: A South Asian Perspective” (2011): Lehman, DuFrene, Sinha & Walker. Cengage
Learning. New Delhi.
You will also be expected to read the handouts/chapters from other books given/suggested
in class from time to time.

5. Evaluation (Tentative):
Individual Presentations = 20% (10+10)
Group Presentations=20%
Group Discussions=20%
End Term=40%

6. Academic Integrity:

Any unfair means in examinations will invite heavy penalty. It may also invite an ‘F’ in the component/course.

Late comers to the class will not be given attendance. They may also be refrained from attending the class. Each absence from the class will make the student lose ONE grade point.
