FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ANALYSIS

Objectives of the Course:

The stakeholders of an organisation need information for their decision making. Accounting, as the language of business, provides financial and non-financial information to the stakeholders. By reading this course, a student will be able to understand and analyse the financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement) and use them in business decision. Students will also be able to understand and interpret the annual financial reports of any organisation.

Course Outline:
· Introduction to Accounting and Users of Financial Reports.
· Forms of Business Organisation.
· GAAP: Concepts, Conventions, Assumptions and Standards.
· Accounting Fundamentals: Accounting Equation and Financial Statements
· Conceptual Framework for preparing Financial Statements.
· Financial Statements: Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement.
· Financing Decisions and Financial Statements: Equity and Debt.
· Investment Decisions and Financial Statements: Fixed Assets, Inventory, Investments.
· Preparation of Financial Statements and their interrelationship.
· Understanding and Analysis of Cash Flow Statement.
· Analysis of Financial Statements and Financial Reports.
· Understanding and Interpreting the Annual Financial Reports of an organisation.

Evaluation Parameters:
Evaluation will be done through Quizzes, Group work (Assignment and presentation), Mid-Term and End-Term Examinations. (End-Term Examination is open book and open notes.)
