Objective
The dynamic nature of Information System requires that the managers need to be up-to-date with both present and emerging tools and techniques. Students also need to have clear, concise knowledge about the technology, tools and techniques so that they can use them in their career for taking decisions. This course will help students to understand the managerial usage of some of the tools and techniques through case studies and assignments and create a lasting learning experience.
The objectives of the course are:
Modelling business situations using Excel
Understand basics of Information System
Usage of Information System for different functions
Understanding alignment of IT and business objectives

Day 1
Introduction to Excel as office management software. Familiarizing with excel sheet, storing data and formula on a sheet.
Day 2-3
Workshop on modelling in Excel Sheet, inventory management, sales budgeting.
Day 4
Graphs through wizard, statistical functions usage.
Day 5-6
Workshop on trend analysis, forecasting and process capability measurement
Day 7-8
Vision, Mission, Corporate Objectives and introduction to MIS: RPG Case, Railways Passenger System
Day 9-10
Lecture on strategy formulation, BSC and design MIS framework.
Day 11
Case discussion on MIS framework
Day 12
Information system for Sales and Marketing, Information System for HR, Accounts.
Day 13
Lecture on HR Processes
Day 14
Information Security Management

Introduction to ERP and Enterprise Information System

Evaluation Methods:
Plagiarism will be seriously dealt with. A tool will be used for all submissions made to the faculty. Any sentence copied with more than 10 consecutive words will be declared as plagiarism and action will be taken as per student manual of policy.
End term – 40%
Quiz 1 – 10% Scope: Discussion up to sessions 6
Quiz 2 – 10% Scope : Discussions up to sessions 13
Assignment – 10%
Major Assignment – 30% Take up an organization as assigned. Prepare a case study. Case Study: Sections in the case study should have the following: 1. Vision & Mission statement of the organization, 2. Overview of the organization, industry description, 3. Identification of significant problem/situation/ issue/ business processes in the organization, 4. MIS design - metrics, periodicity of report, publisher of the report, template of MIS, benefits of MIS. 6. Executive Summary and 7. PPT for presentation
Weight-ages: 1. Define Vision, Mission, corporate strategy – 5%, 2. Describe business processes, design information system (s), (consider alternatives, architecture, technology, organization structure) based on (i), benefits – 15%
Executive summary – 5% and 3. PPT – 5%
Deliverables: PPT to be presented in the class and case study as explained in (iv); There is no need to submit any hard copy of the report, but soft copy will be encouraged. Every week, the groups are advised to discuss with the faculty on the progress made in the assignment.
Groups will be decided by students. One organization can be allocated once only. Allocation of organizations for Major Assignment is as follows:
