DETAILS OF THE COURSE
1.
OVERVIEW
The objective of this course is to equip the students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills for human resource planning in their organizations. It is particularly intended for future managers and supervisors whose professional responsibility is to plan the human resources of their organizations from recruitment to retirement in an effective manner.
2.
METHOD
The following methods of instruction will be used :
Power Point Presentations, Lecturettes, case studies, individual and group activities. Students in small groups will be required to present their research findings in class. An analytical-critical approach will be basic to the process of learning this course.
3.
WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS
A. The syllabus currently calls for the following written assignments :
1.
Book Report
Each student will study a book or ten articles on Human Resource Planning, analyze the contents critically and write a report.
Its length : 4-6 pages
This paper is due in class in July, 2010.
The date of its submission will be announced later.
2.
Field Study Report
Students in small groups will visit a considerably large organization of their choice preferably in the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar areas and maker a study of the actual Human Resource Planning there. A report of this study should be presented in the class before it is submitted to the Instructor. All in the group will get the same grade.
Its length : 6-8 pages
This paper is due in the class in July, 2010
The date of its submission will be announced later.
B.
NOTES ON WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS
a. This course encourages the students to discuss the topics of the syllabus in small groups to clarify ideas and to sharpen their vision, but collaboration should not go further.
b. All writing assignments are to be done individually or in groups as stipulated by the Instructor. The Field Study Report should be written only by the members of the group. Copying from books, internet, articles, one's own papers of other courses or from the papers of other students without reference is not acceptable and may cause failure. Similar outlines, phrases, sentences, format, etc. are indicative of work done dependent on others.
c. All papers should be produced on computer. No hand-written assignments will be accepted.
All writing assignments should be done according to the norms of generally accepted methods. Details in class.
Every written assignment should have the following on a separate paper stapled on to it :
Title of the Assignment
Instructor's Name
Student's Name
Roll Number
Date
d. Each assignment has to be submitted in class on the stipulated date. Exceptions are possible only under compelling circumstances and only if negotiated in advance of the due date.

EVALUATION
The evaluation policy will be as follows :
Book Report : 20%
Mid-term : 20%
Field Study Report : 30%
End-Term : 30%

DIALOGUE
Students in small groups will meet with the Instructor at least once during the course for a short while to assess the progress of the course. Details in class.
6.
