As juggling multiple roles have become more prevalent, managing the interface between work and home has emerged as a central topic for both management practitioners and academics. With the growing numbers of women in the workforce and the increase of dual earner couples, today’s organizations face the challenge of implementing practices that allow their employees to achieve at work, while also engaging meaningfully in their homes and communities. Although not everyone who attempts to juggle multiple work and non work and non-work roles experience conflict, a substantial number of employees do. Research has found that work and family conflict related to job and life dissatisfaction, depression, anxiety, anger/hostility, hypertension, greater alcohol consumption and substance abuse and perception of a lower quality of life. There are also unhealthy consequences for the organization such as absenteeism, tardiness, greater turnover, intention among employees and actual turnover.
