COURSE DESCRIPTION -.

Conflict is inevitable in any organization and the way it is being managed can have far-reaching consequences. The consequences of both negative and positive aspects of organizational conflict, will affect organizational functioning. Though people in general view conflict as harmful to organization because this breeds hostility and mistrust among the members of the organization leading to low productivity, yet conflict can produce positive effect on organization as it facilitates the surfacing of important issues and provides opportunities to create new ideas and approaches to the functioning of the organizational processes by increasing interest among the members of the organization in dealing with the problems.

Conflict management is the process of planning to avoid conflict where ever possible and organizing to resolve the conflict where it does not happen as smoothly as possible

The course provides an insight to the various ways of recognizing conflict in the organization and to understand various approaches used in resolving the conflict . The course will be intellectually stimulating directly relevant to workplace management.

Learning Objectives : –

The course would enable the participants :-

· To understand and identify the conflict, why it arises and how it can be utilized for maximum benefit.
· To recognize various stages of conflict and preventing them from escalating.
· To understand the positive and negative aspects of conflict and some of the dynamics and outcomes of organizational conflict.
· To handle conflict with greater awareness of conflict management styles and the range of conflict resolution methods, approaches, and strategies.
Course Method – Lecture and discussion on text and articles, case analysis, classroom activities and role playing exercises for experiential learning,

      Questions for the quiz shall be drawn from the reading materials, and instructor’s class presentation. The average score of three quiz tests shall be considered for the weight age of 10%.

      Group presentation & case discussion -The group size will be decided depending on the class size.
