2. Course Overview: Human behavior in organizations is complex and a difficult phenomenon to comprehend. Understanding why people behave in a particular way in a work setting irrespective of the type of organization, would be the main focus of this course. Organization behavior is all about knowing the reasons behind people’s behavior in organizational setting.

3. Course Objectives: This course aims to improve ones understanding of human behavior in organizations and ones ability to lead people to achieve organizational objectives more effectively. The participants will acquire functional knowledge on organizational behavior for application in real-life managerial settings.

4. Andragogy: There will be 20 sessions of 90 minutes each for this course giving it a value of 3 credits. This course will be structured to make the students acquire practical skills relevant for managerial execution. Therefore, management skill builders, management exercises, role plays, case studies, and video inputs will be the main elements of course delivery. These will be supplemented with Instructor assigned readings and case studies. All the participants would me made to work in groups for all classes and assignments. Apart from these, the participants will also have to take up group project work through field visits.

5. Evaluation Scheme: Minimum Passing marks: 40 marks out of a total of 100. Any student not meeting this criterion will get a F grade

Group Concept Paper (GCP)15This would comprise of a collective conceptual write-up on assigned topics related to various dimensions of leadership. The structure of the GCP would be provided.Each group would be assigned specific dates during the term.
Socially Relevant Projects (SRP)30Every group would be required to execute field projects wherein they will undertake social activities aimed to make a difference in the lives of the people belonging to the chosen field. The evaluation will be primarily based on:
1) how well the groups could make a difference in the lives of the people of the chosen field
2) Sustainability of the project in near future, and
3) Demonstration of learning.
Last 2 sessions of the term will be utilized for SRP presentations.




Each group will get a maximum of 15 minutes for presentation
Mid Term Examination20This would be a short examination comprising Multiple Choice Questions aiming at testing the conceptual clarity of the students.25th July to 28th July 2011 after Dean (Acad) Office notification.
End Term Exam35At the end of the course a comprehensive examination will be conducted comprising the entire course covered in the term. The aim of this exam will be to assess the development of application skills from the course.Will be conducted at the end of the term between 6th to 11th September 2011

7. Course Textbook: ORGB:
A South Asian Perspective

This textbook will act the primary source of academic material and will be relevant for mid-term and end term examination. Apart from this, the course Instructors may provide additional reading materials as hard copy/soft copy academic inputs.

About Dr. Andrew Dutta:
About Dr. Soosai Peppin Prof. Peppin is engaged in teaching Organization Behaviour (Group Behaviour), Organization Change and Development, understanding Development Organisations, Development Training, Disaster Management and Healthcare Management. Prior to joining XIMB he was a faculty at Loyola College, Chennai and IGNOU, Delhi. He has also worked with Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) and with Indo-Swiss Natural Resource Management Programme Orissa as a Senior Programme Advisor on Human and Institutional Development. He was the Chief Coordinator for the Certificate Programme in Leadership and Managerial Proficiency (LAMP) offered for the People Living with HIV in collaboration with UNDP. Currently he is coordinating the Centre for Healthcare Management (CHM) at XIMB. He is also coordinating three major projects. They are (i) assessing the progress of achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Orissa in collaboration with UNICEF, Orissa, promoting and strengthening the capacity for HIV/AIDS Counselling in Orissa as part of Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM) Round 7 and partnering with London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) on “assessing effect of improved sanitation on diarrhoea & intestinal infection” in Orissa. He has coordinated a major study on Supply Side Analysis of Long Term Availability of Health Providers in Orissa. He has been a consultant to GTZ, UNDP, UNICEF, DRDO (Ministry of Defence, GoI), Swiss Caritas, Concern Worldwide and various leading NGOs in India. His current areas of interest include, Human and Institutional Change & Development, particularly in the Public Sector, Servant Leadership, Ethics & Quality in Healthcare and Capacity Building of People Living with HIV. He has written extensively in the field of Rural Development, Rural Healthcare Management, MDGs, Organisational Culture and Human Resources for Health. He has undertaken health related evaluation assignments in Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia and Costa Rica.
