Abstract of the talk
This presentation reviews Natural Disaster Response Studies, an interpretive field of social science research. After reviewing key vocabulary, the presentation turns to important conceptual ideas such as disaster agency, vulnerability, resilience and context, citing examples along the way from South Asia, Europe and America. In the later part of the presentation the wider political uses of disaster releif are analysed and contemporary examples are discussed.
