The alumni meet at Bangalore was a great success with 52 alumni (plus eight spouses) attending the meet. The meet was organized on 2 June 2001 at Canopy Restaurant, M. G. Road, Bangalore. There was representation from all the batches except the 1995 batch:
1989 | 1990 | 1991 | 1992 | 1993 | 1994 | 1995 | 1996 | 1997 | 1998 | 1999 | 2000 | 2001 |
1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 8 | 6 | 6 | 13 | 11 |
During the general introduction, the participants shared their nostalgic feelings about their XIMB days: The assignments, presentations, and the pressure have been good lessons for the career ahead; JLTs are always missed; XIMB was a good place for team work; ...
The informal interaction thereafter warmed up by the chilled stuff supplied on the house (thanks to a sponsorship from the UB Group). Participants from different batches shared their ideas for improving Institute-alumni relationships. Some of the suggestions were:
- Since there are too many YahooGroups, effort should be made to get everyone into one YahooGroup
- The frequency of alumni meets should be increased
- The Institute should involve itself more in the alumni network
- The alumni should be given more opportunities to involve themselves in the Institute's activities
Valuable inputs were given to the current batch in terms of placements and the market conditions:
- There was nothing to worry about the current slow down, things would improve by the year-end
- Consultancies have to be targeted to improve the profile of the companies visiting the campus
- There should be a better follow-up with the companies during placements
This was followed by a vigorous JLT (Just Like That) -- a feature that has become a part of the student culture at XIMB -- and dinner. There was fun and dance on the floor. Like all good things, the party came to an end with the participants promising to meet again soon.
