Report on Alumni Meet 2003
Report awaited
22 June 2002
On 1 June 2002, the evening started off in an unusually slow pace. The setting seemed perfect for a weekend get-together. The breezy weather added to the scenic appeal of the Poolside of the Taj Banjara and the Banjara lake next to the venue.
At first the attendance was thin, but then the Nawabs started turning up slowly and gradually for the party. You could blame it on the weekday's work pressure or the football mania ! But an evening with fellow Ximmers was irresistible enough to ignore, besides the promise of some Hyderabadi Special Biryani with Kingfisher or Coke...
People did turn up in various colours and shades -- showing amply that work had little effect on the 'evergreen' crowd from XIMB. Some even went to the extent of sashaying under the Shamiyanas as they would perhaps on their wedding. You could feel a couple of eyes turning -- but then isn't that what the XIMmers are used to... The effect of Ximmers and their spouses was incomplete without the kids... one of them actually had a cool dip in the pool too! The mood was a mixture of light heartened fun and some seriousness with the inclusion of the election in the agenda.
The evening saw an informal beginning with the Batch-wise introduction of the Junta. The hosts Saipriya and Akshay co-ordinated the stage well and managed to pull off a couple of melodious tones from some well endowed voices in the crowd.
This was followed by a formal address from Prof. Jaydeep Mukherjee, who laid down the new vision for the Alumni Association of XIMB, as seen by the Director, Fr Abraham. He elaborated about how the Institute felt the alumni community could contribute to their alma mater. We also had a brief from the outgoing regional co-ordinator, Badrinath Singh (better known as Badboy or Badri) about the activities and achievements in the last one year.
Now it was VOTING TIME. The candidates nominated by the crowd for the various posts gave their views about the state of affairs and how they felt they could make a difference. The Junta was then asked to vote for the 3 posts: President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The voting was followed by Dinner.
The results of the election were:
President: G V Kumar (PGP 1990)
Secretary: Rakesh Purohit (PGP 1999) and Badrinath Singh (PGP 2001)
Treasurer: A Rajasekhar (PGP 1998)
Ayan Acharya (PGP 2002)

PS: Junta presently based in Hyderabad/Secunderabad are requested to kindly send in their info to "Ayanacharya@drreddys.com" -- that's in case you all haven't already sent it to Badri.
OLD REPORT
18 May 2001
It was 7:00 p.m., 12 May 2001... After days of frenzied running around, the day had finally arrived... The first XIMB Alumni Meet in Hyderabad was officially underway with an attendance of 30 XIMmers out of the 40 we could contact. We were privileged to have Prof. S. Kumar with us to grace the occasion.
After a few rounds of informal interaction, a formal presentation was made by the current students and following it, formal introduction by each alumnus/alumna present, ranging from the batch of 1990 to 2001. In the Open House Discussion that followed, quite a few suggestions were made for improving the Institute's image and facilitating greater interaction with the alumni. Some of these suggestions were:
- Creation of an XIMB Brand Building Fund to market XIMB better.
- Involment of the alumni in Placements by way of recruitment for Summer Training.
- Revival of the trend of inviting members of the alumni for Guest Lectures.
Ravi Chander (1999) and Arun Rao (1999) were given the responsibility to keep an eye on the entry and exit of XIMmers in Hyderabad.
After the discussions, it was party time! With music and dance, JLT, and topics of discussion moving to life on campus, to work, to interior decoration, to the latest movies seen...
A fabulous meet with the warmth & 'spirit' of XIMB, the will to continue the tradition of Alumni Meets in Hyderabad only too visible... making one feel proud and joyous about being a XIMmer and part of the XIMB family.
