Meeting at Kolkata

The Alumni Meet in Kolkata on 18 May 2003 had an alumni turnout of 45, which was double that of last year. About 15 of the alumni came with their families. The scheduled time for registration was 6.30 pm. People started coming at 7.15 pm. At 8 pm, we had a presentation on campus life, followed by the placement presentation. After that, each batch shared its experiences at XIMB. This carried on till 9 pm. After it DJ Sooraj took charge and people re-lived a JLT. The dance continued till 11 pm. Alumni who had come with their families started leaving by 10.30 pm. Others left at around quarter to twelve.

Here are two snaps from the XIMB Alumni party that really *happened* today (18 May 2003) in Calcutta's THE PARK!

Also against last year's attendance of a mere 27 people, this year determined follow-up on the part of the current summer interns did the trick: there were all of FORTY-FIVE alumni present there today. Drinks flowed, people reminisced their shared past, and then some more... However, I think it would be better if someone from the faculty's side is also present during such get-togethers.

Further, in their presentation though the signing off line was, "Your institute needs you" but how it could be done was left unspecified. Though it did get mentioned that the XIMB Alumni Cell had asked these summer interns to do everything without providing any financial help, and that the alumni then pitched in to make the party happen. But it might be a rather indirect hint towards what the alumni *could* do. I guess that a few visit to the foreign universities sites' "Giving to your alma mater" section would be an invaluable help in giving a few directions in this matter.

Probably from next year onwards, we could standardize a presentation format and content for all such parties. It would help further cement the ties with the alumni and make them even more forthcoming stakeholders in the entire process of XIMB growth and development, something all of us are rather keen on.

An Alumni Meet was held in Kolkata on 8 June 2002 at The Rendezvous, Hotel Astor. Although the meet was scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., the crowd started trickling in from about 8:00 p.m. There were a total of 25 alumni present in the meet.

It was a small crowd but the spirits were high. It did seem like a place where many found their long lost pals. The proceedings kicked off with the Alumni Presentation (a Flash presentation on the computer, developed by some volunteers from the PGP 2003 batch), which received lot of applauds. Many of the viewers said that it made them 'go back to the Institute'. Soon the drinks were flowing and the party got into its mood. Prof. Jaydeep Mukherjee spoke about the new developments at the Institute.

The Kolkata Chapter of the XIMB Alumni Association was born in this meeting. Members present nominated the following office bearers:

The dinner comprised a lavish spread of Indian food ranging from Kebabs to delicacies like Corn Palak and Tikkas. The meet rolled on till about 1:00 a.m. in the morning!

(née Aikat, PGP 1989, i.e., the very first batch) who deserves the credit for making the meet a success.
