FPM Scholars [none] | Institutional Learning and Change Guide: C. Shambu Prasad About Institutional Learning and Change Research in this area aims to develop our understanding of institutions or the rules that govern behaviour among the actors in a system, so as to enable the institutions and systems to function more effectively, even in a changing environment. It draws upon different disciplines and fields, namely sociology, institutional economics, management studies, systems research, and participatory evaluation. A key focus in this area is on the ineffectiveness of conventional impact assessment techniques used in international development contexts, especially in complex multi-actor settings. Possible themes of research would include tools and frameworks that enable organisations to learn, reflect, rethink, and reframe, as well as how these could be used for bringing about changes in policies guiding international development. Some examples of such tools and frameworks are actor-oriented tools, institutional histories, learning alliances, network analysis, communities of practice, and policy dialogues.
