Institutional Studies
Guide: Biswa Swarup Misra

About Institutional Studies

Research in this area will largely focus on the study of institutions in the public and community domains. Institutions such as cooperatives, primary health centers, primary education centers, self-help groups, and institutional frameworks at the district, block, and panchayat will be studied. The objective of these studies will be to improve public policy, management, and practice.

Research in this area have evolved from structuration theory of Anthony Giddens and situational logic of Karl Popper. Structural-functional analysis has formed the basis of explaining the institutional logic and situational logic. Research in this area has been interdisciplinary and will require students to read, assimilate, and synthesize concepts from various fields of social sciences and management, and apply them to public and community institutions in the Indian social and cultural context.
