William About Strategic Operations Management Strategic operations management derives its importance from a long-term research programme into successful businesses by a group of Harvard academics. The aim of strategic operations management is to provide competetive advantage by creating an optimal coordination between competitive strategy and operations strategy. The link between operations strategy and business performane has long been asserted by various researchers. More recently, empirical evidence of the existence and nature of this link has emerged. The new research agenda suggests an integrative role in organisations, a wider application of alternative research methods and sociotechnical analysis over the entire production system.
