We have significant differences with his conceptual framework; we also do not quite share his bleak view of the management profession. The advantages of the extract below are its exemplary lucidity on a rather complex theme, its systemic view, and its emphasis on the inter-play of the major economic institutions - firms, markets, financial markets, nation-states ... which shape and reshape the world.
