OAIster is a searchable catalogue of digital resources, which include items such as digitised (scanned) books and articles, born-digital texts, audio files, images, movies, datasets (e.g., downloadable statistics files), and so forth. OAIster does not maintain a back-up of all these resources; it merely saves the "metadata" and points to the original sources. Some of the OAIster records point to open-access material. Some records may point to material which allow only restricted access. The idea of OAIster is to make digital resources "freely discoverable."
