Security for computing and data communications systems is an important issue on the Xavier Institute of Management campus. To provide maximum access to resources with minimum inconvenience, it is our policy to work toward minimizing risks, not eliminating them completely.
Our security resides on network servers rather than on the network transport facility itself. We use password protection schemes provided by hardware vendors and supplement these with our own protection schemes when sensitive data are involved. We also try to inform our clients of the risks of security violations and system malfunctions, encourage frequent and complete backup of data files maintained by clients, and try to reinforce these ideas through reminders in Institute publications.
Currently no data encryption is done on our network, but encryption and other more sophisticated security techniques will be considered if needed.
